Thixotropy refers to a time-dependent shear thinning property of fluids.  It is the rheological behavior commonly observed in coating or ink formulations, which are thick or viscous under static conditions, but become thinner when shaken, stirred, or otherwise disturbed. The shear thinning flow behavior is characterized by a decrease in viscosity due to increased applied force (shear load).  However, this is a reversible process, and the materials will reset or return to its more viscous state if allowed to stand after a fixed period of time.

Thixotropic agent is a very important part of a formulation, because it controls the viscosity of a formulation from the beginning of production thoroughly to the very end of the application process.  It reduces viscosity to allow coatings or inks to flow easily during production or application, but increases viscosity to prevents settling during storage.  This thixotropic behavior will also affect the leveling of the paint and prevent sagging after application. 

We supply several grades of thixotropic agents to meet your requirements.  Some grades may provide significant increase in viscosity.  But some grades have the advantage that, on the one hand, they cause only minor increase in viscosity, and on the other hand, they do not cause any settling or sagging.
